Save Big on Energy Efficient Home Upgrades

Usually, the idea of starting a home improvement project can sound intimidating.

But if it could save you money – would you do it?

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, completing the right home improvements can help shave energy bills by up to 35% – that’s almost $630 in annual savings!

The best way to discover which home improvement projects will help you save is through a Home Energy Assessment. An energy auditor can assess where your home is losing the most energy and then can provide examples for improvements. These assessments cost around $400, but this depends on the type of residence you live in and your location.

The biggest energy error: air conditioning systems. Steve Chalk, a recent retiree from the U.S. Department of Energy, explains: “Sometimes you see air conditioning systems that are too large. Therefore, it does not run as long as smaller ones – that might sound energy-efficient, but it’s not.”

If you’re feeling overwhelmed at the thought of tackling big projects like a new air conditioner, there are smaller changes that can also be made to help with your energy bills.

Switching to LEDs can increase home energy efficiency by about 85% alone! Thermostats that are programmable can also help save.

So, do these home improvement project seem worth it to you?
